517 Students participated in this years Commencement

 

Keynote Speaker for this years Commencement was
Michelle Obama,
The First Lady of the United States

 

This was her first keynote speech as First Lady to a graduating class of an university.


THE CHANCELLOR'S MEDAL

was presented to the following:

Michelle Obama, The Frist Lady of the United States

Dennis Cardoza, Member, United States House of Representatives

Robert and Marie Gallo

Yosemite National Park

Carol Tomlinson-Keasey, The first Chancellor of UC Merced, and Blake Keasey

The medal was presented by
Chancellor Sung-Mo "Steve" Kang

 

Sung-Mo "Steve" Kang became UC Merced's
second chancellor on March 1, 2007,
succeeding Carol Tomlinson-Keasey.

Born and raised in South Korea, Kang
earned a scholarship to a university
in the United States and was the
first in his family to attend college
